ABOUT KOBUKAI JUJITSU

KOBUKAI JUJITSU IS A REALISTIC, COMBAT SELF DEFENSE FOCUSED MARTIAL ART. IT TEACHES STUDENTS ESCAPES, STRIKES, THROWS & TAKEDOWNS, CHOKES, BONE BREAKING TECHNIQUES, CONTROLS, GROUND FIGHTING, AND DEFENSE AGAINST COMMON WEAPON ATTACKS.

Since 1993 The Kobukai Jujitsu Dojo has been teaching people to defend themselves from violence. Many students have protected themselves and their families from violent assaults when it was impossible to escape. The concepts, strategies, and tactics we teach at Kobukai Jujitsu are easy to learn, easy to remember, and incredibly effective.

The Kobukai Dojo students train in both a traditional Jujitsu Uniform as well as in normal clothing. There are 4 Ranks below Blackbelt – White, Yellow, Blue, Brown. Each rank has a test for the next rank. Each test becomes more rigorous as you progress up the ranks.

All Kobukai Jujitsu Instructors (Sensei) are at least 3rd Degree Black Belts in Kobukai Jujitsu, which means you will receive the most professional Self Defense Instruction available. Our Sensei all have over 15 Years Experience, and many have Black Belts in other Martial Arts as well. All are focused on SELF DEFENSE.

WARNING: Real Japanese Self Defense Jujitsu is challenging. You will be challenged physically and mentally. It is not for everyone! There are no competitions, medals or trophies. Just hard training. But if you are up for the challenge, it will make your body and mind strong, and you WILL be able to defend yourself. You will also become part of a centuries old lineage of warriors.

If  you wish to join the Kobukai Jujitsu Dojo, simply give us a call or email and arrange to watch a class. If you are interested, you may take a FREE class.  If at the end of these two visits you agree to the stipulations of being a Kobukai Jujitsu student, you will be invited to join Kobukai Jujitsu training.

SHIHAN RUSS ST. HILAIRE (Head Instructor – Dojo Founder)

Shihan St. Hilaire – Menkyo Kaiden (7th dan) – began his Jujitsu training in 1980 under Shihan Ustie of ZenBudo-Ryu at the Aiki Budokai dojo in Connecticut. He received his Blackbelt in 1985. He was a Hand-to-Hand Combat and Riot Control Instructor in the U.S. Army. He was awarded Kaiden 6th Degree Blackbelt in 2003 and Menkyo Kaiden 7th Degree in 2010.  Shihan St. Hilaire also holds a Blackbelt in Kodenkan-Danzan-Ryu Jujitsu.  He has certification as an Okazaki Restoration Therapist, and as a Personal Protection Specialist through EPI. Shihan St. Hilaire is the author of Pioneers of American Jujitsu and The Contractor.

THE KOBUKAI DOJO

The Kobukai Jujitsu Dojo was founded in 1993.  The technical curriculum at Kobukai Jujitsu is a combination of the best techniques from ZenBudo-Ryu Aiki Jujitsu (founded by Hanshi Duke Moore in the 1960s), Kodenkan Danzan-Ryu Jujitsu (founded by Prof. Seishiro Okazaki in the 1930s), Yoshida AikiJutsu (a version of Daito-Ryu Aikijutsu done by Yoshida Kotaro), and Military Combatives. Shihan St. Hilaire and training partner Sensei Carvalko took the most effective techniques from these styles which they had studied and combined them into the Kobukai Jujitsu Curriculum. What sets Kobukai Jujitsu Dojos apart from others is the Teaching Methodology which uses a building block approach to learning and understanding Jujitsu.  Each technique must meet the following requirements: Easy to Learn, Easy to Remember, Easy to Execute under Pressure. There are approximately 200 Self Defense Techniques to learn to earn your Blackbelt at Kobukai Jujitsu, with more advanced waza to learn as a Blackbelt.  The Kobukai Jujitsu Dojos believe you can learn a highly effective self-defense form of Jujitsu in a Traditional Japanese training atmosphere, without having to engage in external competitions.
