SENSEI RUSS ST. HILAIRE Menkyo / 6th Dan

Sensei St. Hilaire began Ju-Jitsu study in 1980 under Professor Dan Ustie,7th Degree Blackbelt. He received
his Shodan in 1985. He has studied with several other Shihan such as Hanshi Duke Moore (10th dan
Aikijutsu), Shihan Jerry Kunzman (9th dan Aikijutsu), Shihan Tim Delgman (9th dan Aikijutsu), Shihan Sig
Kufferath (10th dan Jujutsu), Shihan Doug Kiehl (7th dan Jujutsu), Sensei Wes Leavens (5th Dan
Aikido/Aikijutsu), as well as having received instruction in Karate, Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. He has also trained in
Japan.
Sensei St. Hilaire began formally teaching in 1985 at his instructor's school, and opened his first school in
1987. From 1988 - 1991 Sensei St. Hilaire served in the U.S Army. He was a member of the U.S. Army Honor
Guard in Washington, D.C. He ran a Jujitsu School at Ft. Myer, VA and was a hand to hand combat instructor
for the U.S. Army Riot Control/Civil Disturbance teams, the U.S. Army S.R.T. teams, the Washington D.C.
Police Academy, Police Force, and S.W.A.T. instructors. He has also trained other military units in self defense
arts since that time.
Sensei St. Hilaire founded the Kobukai Dojo in 1993 in Connecticut. He is the Chief Instructor of the
Glastonbury, CT Kobukai dojo. Sensei St. Hilaire is certified as a Personal Protection Specialist by the
Executive Protection Institute. Sensei St. Hilaire is also certified in Oriental Medicine (Anma) from the
KDRJA. He is the President of Katana Sports Balm, LLC and is the author of Pioneers of American Ju-Jitsu and
The Contractor.
SENSEI TODD ABBRUZZESE Menkyo / 3rd Dan

Sensei Abbruzzese began training in the martial arts at age 18. He began his Ju-Jitsu studies
with Sensei St. Hilaire in 1995 at the Kobukai Dojo. He received his Menkyo / Sandan in 2005
from Sensei St. Hilaire.
Sensei Abbruzzese has also studied Tae Kwon Do with Master Duk Sung Son, 9th Dan; and is a
1st Degree Blackbelt in TaeKwonDo. He has also studied Chinese Boxing. Sensei Abbruzzese
has also had the opportunity to train in Ju-Jitsu and Aiki JuJitsu with Sensei Joe Carvalko,
Prof. Harry Glackin, Prof. Tim Delgman, Shihan Miguel Ibarra, and Hanshi Duke Moore.
SENSEI JOE CARVALKO Menkyo / 4th Dan

Sensei Carvalko began training in Ju-Jitsu in 1984, and received his Shodan in 1991. He received his Menkyo /
Yondan in 2005 from Sensei St. Hilaire.
Sensei Carvalko has studied Ju-Jitsu with Prof. Daniel Ustie, Prof. Jerry Kunzman, Prof. Tim Delgman, and Hanshi
Duke Moore. He has also studied Kurai Katori Ninjutsu, Choy Li Fut Kung-Fu, Tae Kwon Do, and Aikido. Sensei
Carvalko has also had a varied military career, serving in U.S. Army Infantry, Intelligence, Medical, and Psy-Ops
divisions. He is also an avid mountain climber. Sensei Carvalko is a Certified Protection Specialist.
SENSEI TONY TORTORELLA Menkyo / 3rd Dan

Sensei Tortorella began his Jujitsu studies in 1995. He studied at the Kobukai Dojo with
Sensei St. Hilaire and Sensei Carvalko, and received his Menkyo / Sandan in 2007.
Sensei Tortorella served 12 years in the U.S. Army, six of which were with the 1st Ranger
Battalion, 75th Infantry. He was a graduate of U.S. Army Intelligence, Infantry, Ranger, and
Airborne schools. He has extensive training in military special operations, and served in both
the Greneda and Panama campaigns as a Ranger. Sensei Tortorella has served in Law
Enforcement and has taught Disturbance Control as well as Self Defense to the Federal Prison
system.
Sensei Tortorella teaches at the Waterbury, CT dojo.
SEMPAI KEN COTRONA Mokuroku / 2nd Dan

Sempai Cotrona began his Jujitsu studies with Sensei St. Hilaire in 2001, receiving his
Okuiri Shodan in September 2004, and his Mokuroku / Nidan in 2006.
Sempai Cotrona has a Shodan in Hapkido and a Sandan in TaeKwonDo fron Master Sang
H. Kim. Sempai Cotrona also studies Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Sempai Cotrona has also been a
wrestling Coach for Wethersfield and Berlin schools. While in competition, Sempai
Cotrona consistently placed in the top 4 in States, Nationals, and World Championships of
the North American Grappling Association in the Masters class - Intermediate through
Advanced.
Sempai Cotrona runs a jujitsu study group in Berlin, CT.
SEMPAI MATT BRYERS Mokuroku /2nd Dan

Sempai Bryers began his training at Kobukai Hombu in 2002. He received his Okuiri /
Shodan in 2006. He received his Mokuroku nidan in 2009. Matt has also studied Kyokushin
Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Komushin ryu Jujutsu. He is the owner of Fightauthority.com
and Martialfighter.com. Sempai Bryers runs the Cromwell, CT dojo.
Note: Only blackbelts with the official title of Sensei are allowed to award students rank in Kobukai Jujitsu.

Sempai Penta began studying at Kobukai in 2002. He received his Okuiri shodan in 2007.
Sempai Penta is an assistant instructor at the Kobukai hombu and is also a Blackbelt in
Kodokan Judo. He was awarded Mokuroku nidan in 2009.
Sempai Houle began studying at Kobukai in 2003. He received his Okuiri shodan in 2007.
Sempai Houle assists at the Kobukai hombu.
Sempai Allard began studying at Kobukai in 2005. He received his Okuiri shodan in 2008.
Sempai Allard also studies Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Sempai Allard is an assistant instructor at the
Kobukai hombu.
Sempai Kocienda began studying at Kobukai in 2003. He received his Okuiri shodan in 2008.
Sempai Kocienda has also studied Komushin-Ryu Jujitsu. Sempai Kocienda is an assistant
instructor at the Kobukai hombu.
